The measurement of the leakgas temperature, in combination with the leak gas quantity allows the early detection of packing wear. Measurement of the leakage flow is complicated and expensive, especially in the case of small quantities. Temperature measurement on the leak gas line can often be installed more cost-effectively, but gives no information of leakage quantity.
